Rudy and I have been talking about kids for a while now - kids have always been in our plans and now we're finally expecting our first little surfer baby.
Here's how it all went down...
Rudy and I had been extremely busy getting things prepared for his VISA interview that we had at the US Embassy on July 5th. We had so many other things on our minds; me being pregnant was not one of them until...I realized I had missed my girlie time of the month by 6 days, which was extremely weird because I had a pretty regular cycle - every 27 to 28 days.
We were on our way home from San Jose, super stoked because Rudy got his 10 year VISA to the US, when I realized I felt a little funny - my lower back was achy and I was feeling a little woozy. Then it hit me... "Um, amor...I am pretty sure I missed my "regla" (which is Spanish for the girlie time of the month)...how awesome would it be if we found out I am pregnant on the same day we got your VISA?!" Well, we didn't find out that day because apparently the best time to take a pregnancy test is in the morning.
But we did find out the next morning (July 6, 2011)! I woke up around 5:30 AM because I could not hold it any longer - I had to go do "pichi" (another Spanish word meaning pee).
OK - so this was the moment of truth. I followed the directions and put the stick on the floor to wait for 3 minutes. I could hardly hold my head up and my eyes open until I saw that second pink line. I saw it, but didn't believe it.
I picked up the stick, ran into the room, turned on all the lights possible, and shook Rudy like crazy to wake him up. I shoved the stick and the piece of paper that says "if you see one line, you're not pregnant - if you see two lines, you're pregnant" into Rudy's face thinking he'd be able to read it, but he could hardly open his eyes.
"We're pregnant" I screamed! At that point, Rudy basically jumped through the roof with joy. We were so unbelievably excited about the news that we started calling our families at 6 AM - I'm pretty sure we woke up the majority of them... ha ha sorry guys!
Well, this is just a start to a very long 9 months, but I am so excited for this amazing journey!
So sweet!!! Congrats, Steph! Love the blog!!
